Shortlisted! The LCSCA £1000 Book Prize 2026

Every year, we award the LCSCA £1000 Book Prize to the author of the best book on antisemitism published in the previous 12 months. 2026 has been a rich year for excellent books with a total of 22 titles on our longlist.

We gave the challenging task of first choosing a shortlist, and then deciding the winning book, to a panel of distinguished international academics, who have now revealed their choices. We are proud to announce our 2026 shortlist – five excellent titles chosen from an exceptionally strong
field. These are:

1. Feminist Antisemitism by Kara Jesella: “Though the feminist response to the brutal Hamas invasion on October 7, 2023, shocked onlookers, in fact, hostility toward Jews, Jewish women, and Israel has become a central feature of the feminist movement and its most important theories.” This book explains how and why.

2. Exceptional Hatred by James Loeffler: “From two antisemitic riots in postwar Chicago to a neo-Nazi march in 1970s Skokie, Illinois, and the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally in our own time, Loeffler explores the ways in which America’s courts have grappled with hatred, freedom, and the tensions at the heart of liberal democracy”. https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250806079/exceptionalhatred/

3. Antisemitism: An American Tradition by Pamela Nadell: “At a time when prejudice, discrimination, and hate against Jews is flaring across the country, Antisemitism, an American Tradition argues that we must understand the past. This momentous work reveals how antisemitism—and resistance to that hatred—endures, representing not a rupture from America’s history, but a centuries-old legacy.”

To be shortlisted for any prize is a huge boost for any author.

Kara Jesella says “I am thrilled to be nominated for an award given by the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism–an organization that has been so supportive of my work–alongside such important scholars: three of us women who are fighting against antisemitism and antizionism, which is one of the topics that my own book explores.”

Professor Pamela Nadell says “I am thrilled and honored to have been named a finalist! Seeing my book alongside those of such stellar scholars is an unimagined honor.”

This is also echoed by Professor Karin Stogner “I am absolutely delighted that my book is shortlisted for the LCSCA book prize – what an honour!”
