Lukas Uwira
Lukas Uwira is currently completing his PhD in Cultural and Social Studies at the European
University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). His research examines early forms of antizionist
antisemitism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with a focus on narratives of state
destruction and the alleged impossibility of Jewish statehood. He holds a Diploma in Visual
Communication/Media from the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HFBK).
Until recently, he worked as a research associate at the Tikvah Institut Berlin on publicly
funded projects on media coverage of Israel and the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, conducting
both a qualitative and a mixed-method study of reporting in German print and online media.
His broader research interests include the history and theories of antisemitism, especially
historical and contemporary forms of Israel-related antisemitism, distorted representations of
Israel in news coverage, and critical social theory.
