Martin Bright
Martin Bright is a Senior Lecturer in Journalism in the Department of Literature Film and Theatre Studies (LiFTS) at Essex University
He has worked for over 30 years in journalism on national newspapers and magazines. He was Home Affairs Editor of the Observer and Political Editor of the New Statesman and the Jewish Chronicle. In 2009 he set up the youth employment charity, Creative Society. He is currently Editor-at-Large at the free-expression magazine Index on Censorship. He has also worked in politics, academia, film, radio and TV. Official Secrets, a major film about the challenge to democracy in the build-up to Iraq War, based on a story he broke for the Observer in 2003, was released in 2019 starring Keira Knightley, Ralph Fiennes and Matt Smith.
