Tanya Ehmnan, Research Fellow

Tanja Ehmann is a research associate and lecturer in Social Work at the Catholic University of Applied Science Berlin (KHSB). 

Her teaching focuses on critical social work in the context of antisemitism and racism, social work research and (post)migration from an intersectional perspective. 

Her research on contemporary antisemitism on the left focuses on pop cultural and academic contexts, with an emphasis on how human rights-oriented perspectives and advocacy for social justice frame authoritarian activism, and how this (re)framing is used to legitimize discrimination and violence against Jewish identities and/or solidarity with Israel. 

In addition, she is the commissioner against antisemitism at her university (since 2025) and is currently enrolled in a three-year training program at the Alice-Salomon-University of Applied Science Berlin in the field of counselling on right-wing extremism. 

After her PhD in educational sciences in the field of empirical classroom research at the University of Potsdam, she worked as political educator at the Berlin Archive of Youth Cultures (AdJ), primarily in the field of prevention of antisemitism and at the AdJ also as research staff in the project “Berlin Pop and Subculture Archive” (2011-2017). 

She published an article about the Cultural Boycott Campaign #DJs for Palestine in the Journal of Contemporary Antisemitism (2023), an opinion piece on the lack of solidarity in the international club culture scene following the massacre at the Nova Festival (Fathom Journal, 2024) and a forthcoming/accepted article about social work and campus activism after October 10/7 in the “Contemporary Antisemitism London 2025” conference book.
