Lesley Klaff: The Intersection of Antisemitism and Misogyny in the UK
Wednesday 27 April, 4pm UK time.
There is very little empirical or sociological data on the nature, function or impact of the abuse that occurs at the intersection of antisemitism and misogyny in the UK. This talk will consider the reasons for this and will analyse the limited evidence that does exist, both online and offline, of the gendered antisemitism directed at Jewish female politicians as well (perceived) Jewish women and girls in public spaces. It will conclude that misogynistic abuse becomes far worse when an element of conscious antisemitism enters into it.
Lesley Klaff is a Research Fellow of the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism, the editor of the Journal of Contemporary Antisemitism, and a Senior Lecturer in law at Sheffield Hallam University.
This series on intersectionality and antisemitism is convened by Amy Elman, Weber Professor in Social Science, Kalamazoo College, and hosted by ISGAP.
